When it comes to enhancing your eyelashes, there are a number of different options: the two most popular ‘DIY’ options being strip lashes and individual lashes. You can also get eyelash extensions, which are semi-permanent synthetic fibres that are applied to each of your individual natural eyelashes, done by a beauty professional. You can learn more about eyelash extensions here, but in this blog, we will be comparing strip lashes & individual lashes, to help you decide which option best suits your needs.
Before we get into it, let's make sure we fully understand what individual lashes are.
What are Individual Lashes?
Individual lashes, also known as ‘cluster’ lashes, are a type of false lash that consist of small clusters of individual lashes that are applied directly to your natural lashes. Just like strip lashes, they are available in various lengths, thicknesses, and styles, allowing you to enhance your lash look to your desired effect.
The Difference Between Strip Lashes and Individual Lashes
Now we know the basic difference between the two, we can compare them in more detail. Below we look at the differences in the application process, the comfort and overall style.
The Application Process
Firstly, the application process differs slightly. Individual stick-on lashes require more precision, skill and time to apply than strip lashes, as you need to place each individual cluster of lashes onto your natural lashes, using tweezers and a super steady hand. Strip lashes are much easier and quicker to apply, as you simply need to place the strip along your lash line and you’re done.
To perfectly apply strip lashes, apply your chosen lash glue to the outer seam of the eyelash strip with an applicator or small brush and let the glue dry for a minute. Then, place the strip on your eyelid using an ergonomic applicator, positioning it as close as possible to your natural lashes. And you’re done! Remember: try not to apply the lash too close to the inner corner of the eye. Once you've mastered the technique, you'll be able to put on a perfect set of strip lashes in a matter of minutes. Perfect if you’re in a rush or limited on time getting ready.
To apply individual stick on lashes, take a small amount of lash adhesive onto a clean surface and dip the end of the individual lash cluster into the adhesive, ensuring that the entire base of the cluster is coated. Using a pair of tweezers, place the lash cluster onto your natural lash line, starting from the outer corner of your eye and working inwards. Place the cluster as close to the root of your natural lashes as possible without touching your eyelid. Continue placing the individual clusters along your lash line, spacing them out evenly and avoiding placing too many clusters in one area.
If applied correctly, neither individual stick on lashes or strip lashes should cause any discomfort.
However, if you’re not used to wearing strip lashes, they can sometimes feel heavy on the eyes and require some time getting used to. This is why it is recommended to start with natural length false eyelashes, such as our Passionate or Brave lash styles, as these are the shortest and most lightweight.
Strip lashes may also feel slightly heavy if they’re too long across the eyelid, so here is our complete guide on how to measure and trim your false lashes if this problem occurs.
In terms of style, individual lashes typically give a more natural look compared to strip lashes. This is because individual lashes are buildable, great if you’re only looking for a slight lash enhancement.
That being said, many brands now offer ‘natural style’ strip lashes, such as those here at Eni Lashes, which are shorter and more lightweight than the typical bold strip lash style. Glasses-friendly and subtle, our natural length false lashes are great for everyday use and can be applied within a matter of minutes.
If you’re the type of person who has a number of different occasions throughout the week, strip lashes allow you to choose the style you want, depending on the occasion. If you’re looking to make a statement on a night out or holiday with the girls, our Bold eyelash collection will do just that. On the other hand, if you just want a subtle enhancement for work or the shops, our Success, Brave, and Passionate styles are the best option.
